Trial Summary

What is the purpose of this trial?

Fresh Takes! is a targeted food distribution and nutrition education program offered by Montefiore Bronx Health Collective, a Federally Qualified Health Center located in the South Bronx. The goal of Fresh Takes! is to help reduce food insecurity and prevent progressions to overt diabetes in patients with prediabetes and to help patients with overt diabetes achieve better diabetic control. To that end, participants receive bimonthly fresh food boxes and nutritional support and education over the course of a six-month program.

Will I have to stop taking my current medications?

The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications. It seems to focus on providing fresh food and nutrition education rather than changing medication routines.

What data supports the effectiveness of the treatment Fresh Takes!, Fresh Takes!, Food Distribution and Nutrition Education Program for food insecurity?

Research shows that nutrition interventions in food pantries, like the SWAP program, can help increase healthy food choices and improve health outcomes for people facing food insecurity. Additionally, food provision programs that include nutrition education have been shown to improve nutritional health outcomes, suggesting that similar approaches could be effective in addressing food insecurity.12345

Is the Fresh Food Boxes program safe for humans?

The research articles reviewed do not provide specific safety data for the Fresh Food Boxes program or its variations. However, these types of programs generally focus on improving nutrition and food access, which are not typically associated with safety concerns.14678

How is the Fresh Takes! treatment different from other treatments for food insecurity?

Fresh Takes! is unique because it combines food distribution with nutrition education, aiming to improve food skills and independence among people experiencing food insecurity. Unlike other programs that may focus solely on food provision, Fresh Takes! emphasizes skill-building and long-term self-sufficiency.49101112
