What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

The trial aims to improve the mental health of home health aides by testing the Living Healthy educational program. Participants will either join this 8-week health education program alone or with additional support from a peer coach, who is also a trained home health aide. The goal is to determine if the program more effectively improves mood and mental health compared to usual self-care practices. The trial seeks home health aides experiencing mild depressive symptoms, stress, or loneliness. As an unphased trial, it offers participants the chance to contribute to innovative mental health solutions specifically tailored for home health aides.

Do I need to stop my current medications for this trial?

The trial information does not specify whether you need to stop taking your current medications.

What prior data suggests that the Living Healthy program and peer coaching are safe for improving mental health?

Studies have shown that programs like the Living Healthy educational program are generally safe and well-received. Research indicates that learning about mental health online can improve understanding without causing harm. This suggests that the Living Healthy program, which provides health education and support for positive thinking, is likely safe for participants.

Regarding the version with peer coaching, research suggests that adding a peer coach doesn't create safety issues. Peer coaching involves support from someone with similar experiences, and this method has proven effective without negative effects in other mental health settings.

Therefore, both the Living Healthy program on its own and the version with peer coaching are expected to be safe based on evidence from similar programs.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Researchers are excited about the Living Healthy Program + Peer Coaching because it offers a fresh approach to mental health support for Home Health Aides (HHAs). Unlike traditional mental health interventions that might involve medication or solo therapy, this program combines educational content with peer coaching, creating a supportive and interactive learning environment. The use of the CareConnect eLearning platform allows HHAs to access the program conveniently, ensuring they can continue their education while maintaining service hours for compliance. By pairing each HHA with a trained Peer Coach, this method fosters a collaborative learning experience, which could enhance the effectiveness of the mental health support provided.

What evidence suggests that the Living Healthy educational program and peer coaching could be effective for improving mental health?

Research has shown that programs like the Living Healthy educational program, which participants in this trial may receive, can boost mental health by encouraging healthier lifestyles. One study found that these programs reduced anxiety and stress, especially when participants attended most sessions. Another study showed that health education improved mental well-being by promoting healthy habits.

In this trial, some participants will receive the Living Healthy educational program combined with peer coaching. Adding peer coaching can amplify these benefits. Studies have shown that peer support greatly improves mental health by offering encouragement and shared experiences. An 8-week peer coaching program enhanced mental health and reduced feelings of loneliness. These findings suggest that combining the Living Healthy program with peer coaching could effectively support mental well-being.16789

While the program has shown immediate positive responses from participants, further research is needed to assess the long-term impact of the program on health and well-being among mental health service recipients.
