Chiropractic Care for Cancer-Related Fatigue
(CAN Trial)
What You Need to Know Before You Apply
What is the purpose of this trial?
This trial explores how chiropractic care might assist cancer survivors dealing with ongoing fatigue. The main goal is to assess the feasibility of a larger future study by evaluating participant recruitment, retention, and response to the treatment. This trial may suit cancer survivors in the Atlanta area who have experienced fatigue since their cancer treatment and are in remission (no active disease). Participants should not have any heart conditions or take medications that could interfere with the study. As an unphased trial, this study offers a unique opportunity for participants to contribute to pioneering research that could enhance the quality of life for cancer survivors.
Will I have to stop taking my current medications?
The trial requires that if you are on any prescription medication, you must be on a stable dose for at least 12 weeks and have no plans to change medications or doses during the study.
What prior data suggests that chiropractic care is safe for cancer survivors?
Research has shown that chiropractic care is generally well-received. In one study focusing on upper neck chiropractic treatments, participants rated their satisfaction at 9.1 out of 10, indicating they felt positive about the treatment and did not experience major problems.
However, more research is needed to determine the safety of chiropractic care for cancer patients. There is insufficient information about its safety for cancer survivors experiencing severe fatigue. Despite this, the widespread use of chiropractic care suggests it is considered safe by many. Patients considering this treatment should consult their doctor to ensure it is a suitable option for them.12345Why are researchers excited about this trial?
Unlike the standard treatments for cancer-related fatigue, which often rely on medication or exercise regimens, chiropractic care offers a non-invasive approach that focuses on spinal alignment. This method could potentially alleviate fatigue by improving nervous system function and overall well-being without the side effects associated with drugs. Researchers are excited because chiropractic care may provide a holistic alternative, offering relief through a natural, body-centered technique that could complement existing therapies.
What evidence suggests that chiropractic care might be an effective treatment for cancer-related fatigue?
Research has shown that chiropractic care might help cancer survivors experiencing chronic cancer-related fatigue (CCRF). Studies have found that patients often feel less pain, sleep better, and even have a stronger immune system after chiropractic treatments. These benefits can help reduce the constant tiredness and exhaustion linked to CCRF. Although more research is needed to confirm its effectiveness specifically for cancer-related fatigue, early findings suggest that chiropractic care, which participants in this trial will receive, could improve overall well-being in cancer survivors.12467
