What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial aims to determine if practicing yoga can reduce pain for women with endometriosis, a condition where tissue similar to the uterine lining grows outside the uterus, causing pain and discomfort. Participants will follow a 12-week yoga program to assess its impact on their symptoms. Women diagnosed with endometriosis through surgery and experiencing moderate pain may be suitable candidates, particularly if they haven't practiced yoga recently. Participants need access to the internet and basic yoga equipment.

As an unphased trial, this study provides a unique opportunity to explore a non-invasive approach to managing endometriosis symptoms.

What prior data suggests that yoga is safe for women with endometriosis?

Research has shown that yoga is generally safe and easy to practice. A review of studies found that yoga can improve quality of life and reduce pain for people with endometriosis and other conditions. In another study, all participants reported that yoga helped them manage their pelvic pain. These findings suggest that yoga may be a safe way to manage endometriosis symptoms without major side effects.12345

Why are researchers excited about this trial?

Unlike standard treatments for endometriosis, which often include hormonal therapies or pain medications, yoga offers a holistic approach by focusing on the mind-body connection. Researchers are excited about yoga because it may provide a non-invasive and drug-free way to manage symptoms, potentially reducing pain and improving quality of life. Additionally, yoga can help reduce stress and improve mental health, which can be particularly beneficial for individuals dealing with a chronic condition like endometriosis.

What evidence suggests that yoga might be an effective treatment for endometriosis?

Studies have shown that yoga, which participants in this trial will practice, can help reduce pain and improve the quality of life for women with endometriosis. In one small study, women who practiced yoga for eight weeks reported less pain. A review of several studies also found that yoga effectively manages pelvic pain and other symptoms of endometriosis. Another study found that women who practiced yoga experienced physical and mental improvements. Overall, research suggests yoga could be a useful way to manage endometriosis symptoms.12567

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

This trial is for women aged 18-45 with a confirmed diagnosis of endometriosis who experience moderate pain (VAS score ≥5). Participants must have internet access, items for yoga sessions, and commit to a 12-week course. Current yoga practitioners are excluded.
