What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

This trial tests a new type of lens, the TECNIS Odyssey intraocular lens, for individuals with cataracts who previously underwent LASIK surgery for nearsightedness. The goal is to assess how well these lenses improve vision at various distances and gauge patient satisfaction. The trial seeks participants with cataracts in both eyes who are scheduled for cataract surgery and have a history of LASIK surgery. As a Phase 4 trial, it involves an FDA-approved lens, confirming its safety and effectiveness, and aims to understand how it can benefit more patients.

Will I have to stop taking my current medications?

The trial excludes participants using any systemic or topical drugs known to interfere with visual performance, so you may need to stop certain medications. It's best to discuss your current medications with the trial team to see if they are affected.

What is the safety track record for the TECNIS Odyssey intraocular lens?

Research has shown that the TECNIS Odyssey intraocular lens (IOL) is generally safe and well-tolerated. Studies have found that it reliably improves vision for people with cataracts. This lens is designed to perform well in various lighting conditions and aids in clear vision at different distances.

However, evidence regarding its effectiveness in enhancing contrast sensitivity (such as distinguishing between different shades of light and dark) and patient-reported experiences is moderate to low. While many patients report positive outcomes, further research is needed to fully understand the lens's performance in all situations.

Overall, the TECNIS Odyssey IOL is considered safe. Prospective trial participants should discuss any concerns with their doctor.12345

Why are researchers enthusiastic about this study treatment?

The TECNIS Odyssey intraocular lens is unique because it offers improved visual outcomes for cataract patients by providing enhanced depth of focus. Unlike standard monofocal lenses, which typically focus on a single distance, the Odyssey lens is designed to enhance vision across a range of distances, potentially reducing the need for glasses. Researchers are excited about this treatment because it aims to improve overall patient satisfaction and quality of life by delivering sharper, more versatile vision with fewer visual disturbances compared to existing options.

What evidence suggests that the TECNIS Odyssey intraocular lens is effective for cataracts?

Research shows that the TECNIS Odyssey intraocular lens (IOL), which participants in this trial will receive, effectively improves vision for people with cataracts. It uses over 95% of available light, providing sharp and clear vision. Studies have found that it delivers consistent results, even with small focusing errors in the eye. The lens also allows clear vision at different distances, making it easier to focus on objects both near and far. This feature is especially useful for those with presbyopia, a common vision issue with age. Overall, the TECNIS Odyssey IOL offers a dependable option for better vision after cataract surgery.12367
