Job Summary

We are looking for an accomplished Chemical Process Engineer to lead our nanomaterial and carbon-rich material production, development and scale-up efforts. The holder of this position will be responsible for leading a team of engineers and technicians in the designing, developing and optimizing of process unit operations to provide high quality nanomaterials at various scales ranging from Research and Development to Commercial Manufacturing with good manufacturing practices (cGMP). The successful candidate is expected to independently strategize, analyze, design and control product scale-up to meet volume and quality demands.

Job Type / Category

  • Plan, execute and supervise process nanomaterial and carbon-rich material synthesis trials in laboratories and pilot plants to optimize the manufacturing process
  • Scale-up the production process, making changes to components and process parameters to ensure quality is maintained during large scale production
  • Correlate engineering theory with the results of experiments, physical testing and numerical modeling to select well characterized equipment and implement standardized processes within the established design space
  • Implement process controls and devise test methods to assess nanomaterial and carbon-rich material production processes
  • Provide technical input and direction to support capital projects from concept through detailed design and equipment selection
  • Reduce costs by investigating alternative materials and equipment to improve efficiency, quality and yields in bottleneck areas
  • Lead engineering aspects associated with material synthesis and production technology transfer from Research and Development to Industrial Manufacturing Scale
  • Provide training and engineering support to manufacturing team
  • Write technical reports, equipment design specifications and protocols
  • Utilize industry practices such as LEAN, Six Sigma and Project Management methodologies
  • Provide training and leadership to new team members or more junior staff
  • Read trade press or attend conferences to keep up to date with industry developments

Required Education, Skills and Qualifications

  • MSc in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or closely related degrees with 5 years of relevant industrial experience. BSc degree in Chemical Engineering with extensive experience will also be considered.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of chemical synthesis, purification, separation, heat and mass transfer controls in large scale reactors with process improvements and optimization
  • Extensive operations of large-scale reactors under high temperature in compliance with safe regulations
  • Experience with process automation and data acquisition and control is highly desired.
  • Experience with cGMP and process validation
  • Excellent ability to present information effectively to audiences of various technical backgrounds
  • Self-motivated with great organizational skills
