This phase III trial compares the effect of sentinel lymph node mapping to standard lymph node dissection in reducing the risk of swelling in the legs (lymphedema) in patients undergoing a hysterectomy for stage I endometrial cancer. Standard lymph node dissection removes lymph nodes around the uterus during a hysterectomy to look for spread of cancer from the uterus to nearby lymph nodes. Sentinel lymph node mapping uses a special dye and camera to look for cancer that may have spread to nearby lymph nodes. Comparing the results of the procedures may help doctors predict the risk of long-term swelling in the legs.

Tumor margin confirmation is important to confirming appropriate disease excision. Current standard of care is to take select margin samples to pathology for intra-operative readings. However, this is expensive, time consuming, and only assesses the margin contained within the specific sample. In prior work the investigators have determined that indocyanine green (ICG) is highly specific to the tumor bed when injected shortly before surgery. The investigators hypothesize that ICG will be able to accurately identify residual positive tumor margins during sarcoma excision procedures.

Lungs are made up of individual lobes. When a lung cancer tumour is detected in one of these lobes, surgeons typically perform a Lobectomy. A Lobectomy is the surgery most commonly done to treat early-stage lung cancer and requires removal of an entire lobe of the lung, which removes a large amount of lung tissue For patients with small tumours saving as much healthy lung tissue as possible is important. Each lobe of the lung has smaller sections called segments. When a lung cancer is in one of these segments, it is possible to remove that segment, without removing the entire lobe. This surgery is called a segmentectomy. Compared to a lobectomy, a segmentectomy saves a larger amount of healthy lung tissue. With the advances in screening technology for lung cancer tumours, an increasing amount of very small lung cancer tumours are being found, and the demand for segmentectomy is increasing. A segmentectomy is a hard surgery to perform robotically because it is difficult to view the tissue lines that separate each segment within the lobe. As a result, it is difficult for the surgeon to see exactly which pieces of tissue should be removed. Because of these challenges, many patients having robotic surgery will have a lobectomy, even if a full lobectomy is not needed. Near-Infrared Fluorescence (NIF) using indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescent dye is a recent advancement in the robotic platform of robotic surgery. The surgeon will view the CT scan to determine which segment the tumour is located in. Once identified, the surgeon will isolate the segment by cutting off the blood supply to that segment. Then ICG will be injected into a vein. It is expected that the entire lung, except the isolated segment, which will remain 'dark' as it was isolated from blood supply, will fluoresce, giving off a green hue when viewed with the da Vinci Firefly camera. The surgeon will identify 'dark' segment, and will remove it. A pathologist will examine the excised tissue to ensure that the tumour was removed in its entirety. Once confirmed, the surgeon will end the procedure. If the pathologist determines that the segment removed did not contain the entire tumour, then the surgeon will perform a routine lobectomy. This ensures patient safety and confirms that all participants will have the entire tumour removed from their lung.

A laryngectomy involves removing the voice box from the throat. After the voice box has been removed from the throat, the surgeon sews the throat closed. Sometimes part of the throat does not heal and saliva runs out of the throat. This is called a fistula. When a fistula happens, healing takes longer and patients will have to wait to eat and start speaking. The test in this research project is called ICG scan (indocyanine green) and tells the surgeon how much blood is flowing to different parts of the throat. If the test shows that there are parts of your throat that have low blood flow, which will delay healing. Only half of the patients in the study will get the ICG scan. This is so the patients who had the ICG scan can be compared to the patients that did not have the ICG scan to determine if the ICG scan really helps decrease fistulas.

Rotator cuff re-tear is a common delayed complication of arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. This process of re-tear is multifactorial and there has not been any readily identifiable perioperative measure that is predictive of subsequent rotator cuff failure. There have been no human studies looking at intraoperative assessment of rotator cuff vascularity, nor the predictive value that vascularity may have for rotator cuff re-tear. Indocyanine Green (ICG) has been safely used in patients for visualization purposes and has real potential for identifying vascularity in arthroscopic surgical patients. The aim of this study is to establish a standard dosing protocol for ICG in the arthroscopic visualization of rotator cuff vascularity.

This is a study to assess the ability of Indocyanine Green (ICG) to identify neoplastic disease. For many pediatric solid tumors, complete resection of the primary site and/or metastatic deposits is critical for achieving a cure. An optimal intra-operative tool to help visualize tumor and its margins would be of benefit. ICG real-time fluorescence imaging is a technique being used increasingly in adults for this purpose. We propose to use it during surgery for pediatric malignancies. All patients with tumors that require localization for resection or biopsy of the tumor and/or metastatic lesions will be eligible. Primary Objective To assess the feasibility of Indocyanine Green (ICG)-mediated near-infrared (NIR) imagery to identify neoplastic disease during the conduct of surgery to resect neoplastic lesions in children and adolescents. NIR imaging will be done at the start of surgery to assess NIR-positivity of the lesion(s) and at the end of surgery to assess completeness of resection. Separate assessments will be made for the following different histologic categories: 1. Osteosarcoma 2. Neuroblastoma 3. Metastatic pulmonary deposits - closed to accrual Exploratory Objectives 1. To compare the ICG uptake by primary vs metastatic site and pre-treated (chemotherapy, radiation, or both) vs non-pre-treated. 2. Assess the sensitivity and specificity of NIR imagery to find additional lesions not identified by standard of care intraoperative inspection and tactile feedback. 3. Assess the sensitivity and specificity of NIR imagery to find additional lesions not identified on preoperative diagnostic imaging. 4. Assess the sensitivity and specificity of NIR imagery for identifying residual disease at the conclusion of a tumor resection. Separate assessments will be made for the following different histologic categories based on their actual enrollment; this includes but is not limited to analyzing multiple arms together: 1. Ewing Sarcoma 2. Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) 3. Non-Rhabdomyosarcoma Soft Tissue Sarcoma (NRSTS) 4. Renal tumors 5. Liver tumors, lymphoma, other rare tumors, and nodules of unknown etiology

This clinical trial studies positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) and lymph node mapping in finding lymph node metastasis in patients with endometrial cancer that is at high risk of spreading. A PET/CT scan is a procedure that combines the pictures from a PET scan and a CT scan, which are taken at the same time from the same machine. The combined scans give more detailed pictures of areas inside the body than either scan gives by itself. Lymph node mapping uses a radioactive dye, called indocyanine green solution, to identify lymph nodes that may contain cancer cells. PET/CT and sentinel lymph node mapping may be better ways than surgery to identify cancer in the lymph nodes.

This clinical trial assesses the change in lymphatic structure from placement of an intravenous (IV) line and fluid administration using a diagnostic agent, indocyanine green (ICG), with SPY (Trademark) angiography in breast cancer patients at risk for breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL). Patients that are diagnosed with breast cancer with lymph node involvement often undergo treatment that includes surgery to remove the axillary nodes and radiation. Unfortunately, this procedure increases the incidence of BCRL in the surgical arm, as well as other problems including heaviness of the arm, fibrotic skin changes, and an increase in infection risk. Because of these symptoms, venipuncture (blood draw) is often avoided in these arms. Researchers want to show that placement of an IV line and fluid administration in patients at risk for BCRL will indeed not alter the lymphatic structure of the arm and will not change the incidence of BCRL by administering indocyanine green (ICG) dye to patients and assessing their arm lymphatics. ICG is a fluorescent dye that is able to be visualized by the SPY angiography imaging system as it travels through the lymphatic system, allowing researchers to assess how well blood flows throughout the body. Receiving ICG and undergoing SPY angiography may be effective in showing that placement of an IV and fluid administration in breast cancer patients at risk for BCRL will not alter the lymphatic structure of their arm and will not change the incidence of BCRL.

How much do clinical trials pay?
Each trial will compensate patients a different amount, but $50-100 for each visit is a fairly common range for Phase 2–4 trials (Phase 1 trials often pay substantially more). Further, most trials will cover the costs of a travel to-and-from the clinic.
How do clinical trials work?
After a researcher reviews your profile, they may choose to invite you in to a screening appointment, where they'll determine if you meet 100% of the eligibility requirements. If you do, you'll be sorted into one of the treatment groups, and receive your study drug. For some trials, there is a chance you'll receive a placebo. Across trials 30% of clinical trials have a placebo. Typically, you'll be required to check-in with the clinic every month or so. The average trial length is 12 months.
How do I participate in a study as a "healthy volunteer"?
Not all studies recruit healthy volunteers: usually, Phase 1 studies do. Participating as a healthy volunteer means you will go to a research facility several times over a few days or weeks to receive a dose of either the test treatment or a "placebo," which is a harmless substance that helps researchers compare results. You will have routine tests during these visits, and you'll be compensated for your time and travel, with the number of appointments and details varying by study.
What does the "phase" of a clinical trial mean?
The phase of a trial reveals what stage the drug is in to get approval for a specific condition. Phase 1 trials are the trials to collect safety data in humans. Phase 2 trials are those where the drug has some data showing safety in humans, but where further human data is needed on drug effectiveness. Phase 3 trials are in the final step before approval. The drug already has data showing both safety and effectiveness. As a general rule, Phase 3 trials are more promising than Phase 2, and Phase 2 trials are more promising than phase 1.
Do I need to be insured to participate in a medical study ?
Clinical trials are almost always free to participants, and so do not require insurance. The only exception here are trials focused on cancer, because only a small part of the typical treatment plan is actually experimental. For these cancer trials, participants typically need insurance to cover all the non-experimental components.
