PAT Trial Summary

This trial aims to study the impact of attention control training on how people react when they lose balance and fall. The hypothesis is that improving attention control during these situations will result in better hand grasp accuracy and

Who is the study for?
This trial is for older adults who are experiencing frailty, aging issues, or peripheral neuropathy. Participants should be able to attend six sessions involving assessments and training designed to improve balance and prevent falls.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests a new training program focused on improving attention control during reach-to-grasp actions when balance is disturbed. The goal is to see if this can lead to better grasp accuracy and fewer falls among the elderly.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since this intervention involves physical training rather than medication, side effects may include muscle soreness or fatigue due to exercise. There's also a risk of falling during the exercises.

Answered by AI

What is the primary aim of this research investigation?

"This study aims to evaluate the incidence of falls during a balance perturbation, with particular focus on in-task occurrences within an immediate timeframe post-perturbation. Additional objectives consist of assessing activity-specific balance confidence levels, measuring trait and state anxiety through the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, and conducting cognitive assessments using the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE) to detect subtle impairments. The MMSE evaluates various cognitive functions including memory recall tasks, sequential number repetition, and word generation exercises starting with a specific letter such as "F"."
