This trial will use lavender and peppermint oil to help with discomfort and anxiety after surgery.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for English-speaking individuals scheduled for elective joint replacement or spine surgery, who can describe study procedures. It's not suitable for pregnant people, those with asthma or breathing issues, fragrance sensitivities, uncontrolled high blood pressure (above 160/100), recent smokers/vapers, or those with a history of atrial fibrillation (specifically regarding peppermint).Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests the effects of inhaling lavender and peppermint essential oils as additional treatments to help with discomfort and anxiety from lavender and nausea from peppermint after joint replacement or spine surgery.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Potential side effects may include allergic reactions to the oils such as headaches, skin irritation if contact occurs, worsening of asthma symptoms in susceptible individuals, and possible interaction with certain medications.
