Health Data Collection for Lung Cancer
(PGHD Trial)
What You Need to Know Before You Apply
What is the purpose of this trial?
This trial aims to collect health data from lung cancer patients undergoing proton beam radiotherapy using devices like an Apple Watch and a pulse oximeter. The researchers intend to observe changes in patients' health during treatment by monitoring heart rate and oxygen levels. This trial suits those with non-small cell or small cell lung cancer who plan to receive at least 15 rounds of this specific radiotherapy. Patients can participate even if they use other wearable devices, as long as they agree to use the study's equipment. The study will also gather routine medical data to better understand the overall treatment process. As a Phase 2 trial, this research focuses on measuring the treatment's effectiveness in an initial, smaller group, offering participants a chance to contribute to important advancements in lung cancer care.
Why are researchers excited about this trial?
Researchers are excited about this trial because it focuses on collecting patient-generated health data during chemoradiotherapy for lung cancer. Unlike traditional approaches that rely heavily on clinical observations, this method empowers patients to actively contribute data about their health status in real-time. This could lead to better personalized treatment adjustments and improved patient outcomes by capturing more nuanced information about how individuals respond to therapy. Additionally, this approach may enhance patient engagement and provide insights into how daily life activities and symptoms correlate with treatment efficacy, offering a more comprehensive understanding of patient health beyond standard clinical measures.
