What You Need to Know Before You Apply

What is the purpose of this trial?

Jaw disorders is the leading cause in facial pain, affecting many people in the world. Despite many patients finding relief from conservative treatment, many get referred to the surgeon for an evaluation. In order to improve access to care and reduce wait times, a new advanced practice physiotherapist-led triage model is being studied.

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?

Inclusion Criteria

I have been referred to the MUHC TMJ clinic for jaw pain or problems.
Residents of the province of Quebec and beneficiaries of provincial universal health insurance coverage (Régie de l'Assurance Maladie du Québec - RAMQ)
I can understand and communicate in French or English.

Exclusion Criteria

I have had TMJ surgery in the last six months.
Referred directly from a recognized orofacial pain dentist or oral medicine specialist
Present with complex or multi-system pathology that could confound the diagnostic process and are not related to TMD

Timeline for a Trial Participant

Screening

Participants are screened for eligibility to participate in the trial

2-4 weeks

Physiotherapy Assessment

Participants undergo assessment by an advanced practice physiotherapist to determine appropriate care pathway

1 day
1 visit (in-person)

Follow-up

Participants are monitored for satisfaction and outcomes after the initial assessment

4 weeks
