Fisetin for Alzheimer's Disease
(FIS-AD Trial)
What You Need to Know Before You Apply
What is the purpose of this trial?
This trial explores the safety and tolerability of fisetin, a natural supplement, in individuals with mild memory problems or early Alzheimer's disease. The researchers aim to determine if fisetin can complement stable medications for brain health. It suits those who have observed mild cognitive changes due to Alzheimer's and are not facing other serious health issues or using conflicting medications. As a Phase 2 trial, the research measures the treatment's effectiveness in an initial, smaller group, allowing participants to contribute to the early understanding of fisetin's potential benefits.
Will I have to stop taking my current medications?
The trial requires that your current medications, especially psychotropics and cognitive enhancing medications, be stable. However, you cannot participate if you are taking certain medications like oral anticoagulants, anti-cancer, or anti-seizure medications, or if you've used certain supplements in the last month.
Is there any evidence suggesting that fisetin is likely to be safe for humans?
Research has shown that fisetin, a natural substance, might help treat Alzheimer's disease. Studies with mice found that fisetin can improve brain health by lowering stress markers and supporting brain function, suggesting it might protect the brain from damage.
Regarding safety in humans, this trial is in the early testing stages. Researchers are closely monitoring fisetin's safety, but early trials typically suggest that a treatment is likely safe enough to continue testing.
Overall, while more research is needed to confirm these findings in humans, fisetin appears to be well-tolerated based on current knowledge.12345Why do researchers think this study treatment might be promising for Alzheimer's?
Researchers are excited about fisetin for Alzheimer's disease because it offers a new approach by targeting cellular senescence, a process linked to aging and neurodegeneration. Unlike current treatments that primarily focus on symptom management, like cholinesterase inhibitors and memantine, fisetin is a natural compound found in fruits that may reduce inflammation and oxidative stress. This unique mechanism could potentially slow disease progression, offering hope for a more effective intervention.
What evidence suggests that fisetin might be an effective treatment for Alzheimer's?
Research has shown that fisetin, a natural substance, holds promise in animal studies for alleviating Alzheimer's symptoms. In mice with Alzheimer's, fisetin improved memory and reduced levels of harmful proteins associated with the disease. Fisetin also appears to protect brain cells from stress-induced damage, suggesting it may slow memory and cognitive decline. Another study found that fisetin positively affected both brain and body functions, indicating its potential to reduce dementia risk. These findings offer hope that fisetin, which participants in this trial will receive, could benefit individuals with mild memory and cognitive issues or mild Alzheimer's.12367

Are You a Good Fit for This Trial?
This trial is for older adults with mild cognitive impairment or early-stage Alzheimer's dementia, who score at least 11 on the Moca test and are on stable medication. It excludes those with serious medical conditions, allergies to fisetin, substance abuse issues, recent bleeding, cancer treatments, infections needing antibiotics/antifungals, other cognitive-impacting neurological diseases, severe depression or psychosis.Inclusion Criteria
