PIVC Trial Summary

This trial aims to compare the standard way of inserting a peripheral intravenous catheter (PIVC) to using ultrasound guidance, in order to see if ultrasound guidance results in a lower rate of post-insertion failure and a longer period of usefulness for the PIVC. There are two secondary aims: to compare the rates of post-removal complications between the two methods, and to see if the catheter-to-vein ratio can predict the success of PIVC insertion.

Eligible Conditions
  • Peripheral Venous Catheterization
  • Infiltration
  • Phlebitis
