Study Summary

This trial investigates whether pain affects our ability to learn and remember motor skills, and if so, if it's due to pain or a change in context.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for young adults aged 18-35 who are generally healthy, speak English, and can consent to participate. They must be willing to experience experimental pain or non-painful stimulation but cannot have a history of serious health issues, current chronic conditions, certain mental health diagnoses, medication use for pain relief, or allergies related to the study.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study investigates how acute pain affects the retention of motor learning in comparison with just a change in context. Participants will either undergo painful stimuli during learning only or both during learning and retention phases to see if there's a difference.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Participants may experience temporary discomfort from the experimental pain delivery used to test its effects on motor skill retention. There could also be skin irritation due to capsaicin exposure in those receiving painful stimuli.
