Study Summary

This trial is studying how well giving antithymocyte globulin together with cyclosporine works in preventing graft-versus-host disease in patients who are undergoing chemotherapy with or without radiation therapy followed by donor stem cell transplant for acute lymphoblastic leukemia or acute myeloid leukemia.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for people with acute lymphoblastic leukemia or acute myeloid leukemia who are about to receive a stem cell transplant from a fully matched donor. They should be in their first or second complete remission, have no uncontrolled brain disease, and not have used certain drugs like fludarabine for conditioning.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests whether antithymocyte globulin combined with cyclosporine can prevent graft-versus-host disease after chemotherapy (with or without radiation) followed by a stem cell transplant. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive this combination or not.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Possible side effects include allergic reactions to antithymocyte globulin, kidney and liver problems due to cyclosporine, increased risk of infections, and potential complications from the bone marrow transplant process.
