Study Summary

This trial is being done to support intradialytic pedal cycling exercise as an intervention to help with depression. It is an exploratory single arm study, which means that all subjects will be doing the same thing. They will be cycling during dialysis treatment by using a graded duration model. Data will be collected at each dialysis treatment to see how the patient is doing. The goal is to see if this form of exercise can help reduce depressive symptoms.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for adults over 18 with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) on maintenance hemodialysis for at least 3 months, who have attended most of their dialysis sessions. They must be able to exercise and give consent. Excluded are those under 18, unstable patients, recent heart attack survivors, uncontrolled diabetics, pregnant women, and others with specific health conditions.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study tests if pedal cycling during dialysis can help reduce depression in ESKD patients. Participants will use a mini exercise cycle while undergoing treatment following a graded duration model. Depression levels will be measured using the Beck Depression Inventory before and after the intervention.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since this intervention involves physical exercise during dialysis treatments, potential side effects may include muscle soreness or fatigue. Vital signs will be monitored to ensure safety.
