Study Summary

This trial is to test the effectiveness of cold habituation in improving blood flow to extremities, hand function and thermal comfort during cold exposure.

Who is the study for?
Healthy adults aged 18-39 can join this trial. They must avoid exercise, caffeine, and alcohol for 12 hours before tests, and no smoking or tobacco use for 8 hours prior. Exclusions include a history of cold injuries, Raynaud's syndrome, cold-induced asthma, recent MRIs, pregnancy or breastfeeding women, known allergies to adhesives, impaired hand function due to previous injuries or metal implants in arms/hands.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study is testing how repeated exposure to cold affects blood flow in the skin and hands' ability to function properly when it's chilly outside. It aims to see if getting used to the cold can help maintain warmth and comfort during tasks that soldiers might do in cold weather.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
There may be some discomfort from the cold exposure itself such as numbness or tingling in extremities. Skin areas might need shaving for attaching instruments which could cause irritation; also possible are reactions to medical adhesives used.
