This trial is designed to study whether or not a short-term pharmacological blockade of sympathetic nerve activity can help ease anxiety symptoms, as well as measure the impacts on vascular function, inflammation, muscle sympathetic nerve activity, and oxidant stress.

- You had flu-like symptoms in the past two weeks.Your heart's electrical activity must be normal and show no signs of past heart issues like a heart attack or irregular heartbeats.You are between 18 and 79 years old.You have never had heart problems like a heart attack, stroke, heart failure, or issues with your heart valves or muscles. You also do not have peripheral arterial disease.You have not smoked in the past three months or have never smoked before.You understand the study and agree to participate by signing a written consent form before any research procedures are done.You regularly take certain pain relievers like aspirin, Tylenol, Advil, or Motrin, and cannot stop taking them for 2 weeks before each study visit.You have taken weight loss drugs or similar over-the-counter medications within the last three months.You cannot participate if you are currently donating blood, platelets, or plasma.You are taking medicine for weight loss or similar over-the-counter medications within the last 3 months.You cannot currently donate blood, platelets, or plasma.You had flu-like symptoms in the last two weeks.You have a medical condition that might cause you to live less than a year.You have severe neurological problems, including seizures.You have or had cancer, liver disease, or HIV/AIDS.You have a history of heart problems such as heart attack, stroke, heart failure, or heart surgery.You have a history of lung conditions like emphysema, chronic bronchitis, or COPD.You have a condition that weakens your immune system or a disease where your immune system attacks your own body.Your blood test results show normal kidney and liver function, and your thyroid hormone levels are in the normal range or have been stable for at least 3 months if you are taking medication for it.You have a weakened immune system or an autoimmune disease affecting your whole body.You have a medical condition that is likely to shorten your life to less than one year.You are currently taking medication such as Celebrex, Vioxx, Zyloprim, Lopurin or Aloprim.You currently have or have had cancer, liver disease, or HIV/AIDS in the past.You have had a brain tumor, aneurysm, or injury in the past.You have a history of brain tumor, aneurysm, or injury.You have been diagnosed with mental health conditions such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia.You have used tobacco products such as cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco or Hookah in the past 3 months.You have been diagnosed with mental health conditions like bipolar disorder or schizophrenia.You have a history of heart problems such as heart attack, stroke, heart failure, or heart surgery.You currently use or have used tobacco products (like cigarettes, cigars, chewing tobacco, or hookah) in the last three months.You have a history of lung conditions such as emphysema, chronic bronchitis, or COPD.You have a history of rheumatoid arthritis, Grave's disease, systemic lupus erythematosus, or Wegener's granulomatosis.You are currently taking medication to prevent blood clots, seizures, or to treat mental health disorders.You have severe neurological problems such as seizures.You have a history of certain autoimmune diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, Grave's disease, systemic lupus erythamatosis, and Wegener's granulomatosis.You are currently taking medications to prevent blood clots, seizures, or mental health conditions.You are taking medications like aspirin, Tylenol®, Advil®, or Motrin® for a long time, and you cannot or are unwilling to stop taking them for 2 weeks before each study visit.You are currently taking medication such as Celebrex, Vioxx, Zyloprim or similar drugs.You are currently taking clonidine or beta-blockers.You are currently taking drugs for high blood pressure, but for other reasons such as leg swelling or tremors.
- Group 1: Clonidine
- Group 2: Hydrochlorothiazide
