Study Summary

This trial shows that patients who watch a video alongside receiving written and verbal information about procedures and life-sustaining therapy make more informed decisions than those who only receive written and verbal information.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for patients over 50 admitted to the surgical intensive care unit (SICU) who can't make decisions themselves, and their surrogates. Participants must be at least 21 years old, speak English, and not expected to pass away within 48 hours.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study is testing if a video aid helps people make better-informed decisions about SICU procedures and life-sustaining therapy compared to just getting written and verbal information.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Since this trial involves an informational video rather than a medical treatment, there are no direct physical side effects. However, emotional or psychological responses may vary among participants.
