General Description

The purpose of this position is to supervise the billing department operations and staff which is responsible for ensuring billing batches are worked and billed out according to the schedule. The Billing Supervisor provides direct employee supervision, including, performance assessment, payroll and time keeping, training and development, performance management, corrective action, and coaching and mentoring. The Billing Supervisor assures billing procedures are timely and compliant with policy and procedures of the authority. This is accomplished by maintaining the billing process is being run on schedule such as pickups, notices, disconnects, reconnects, and new and final accounts; monitoring arrangements made on customer accounts; revising accounting software to ensure lack of errors; making error repairs in the field. Other duties include project management, monitoring vendor contracts, troubleshooting system upgrades, and contributing to the department budgeting process.

Essential Functions

  • Works with internal and external customers by resolving complex customer billing issues; working to ensure assertive and appropriate business actions are taken with bankruptcy; billing and writing off activities; serving as leader in performing customer service and accurate billing functions
  • Manages performance of staff by developing performance goals; coaching for improvement; the creation and delivery of performance reviews; the tracking of errors and the administration of disciplinary action as needed
  • Resolves any issues by reporting what may impact the efficient operation of the team or division to the Billing and Collections Manager or Director of Customer Service; monitoring all functions to ensure prompt and accurate billing updates; performing all other duties as assigned
  • Assists with coworkers by adjusting accounts for team members; training and mentoring new staff members; planning and organizing cross training of team members; coordinating in-house and other routine training
  • Coordinates efficiency by setting up and utilizing Standard Operating Procedures; reviewing and recommending improved work methods and best practices for the division.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED issued from an approved GED Administrator.
  • Minimum of three years relevant experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class E Driver's License
