We are currently seeking a materials engineer student to join our Materials and Inspection Services Department.
In this role, you will work with engineers and technologists that are responsible to administer and execute the company’s Risk Based Inspection Program. This involves providing the organization with technical support for root cause and problem analyses, work scope identification, and the development of technical solutions. Available assignments areas could include the metals lab, conversion and hydroprocessing plants, utilities and offsites, and the extraction plant.

Key Accountabilities
Support ongoing maintenance of the Metals Lab facility, ensuring the safe operation of all equipment in the Metals Lab
Support development of Equipment Strategies for Fixed Equipment (e.g. Pressure Vessels, Boilers, Storage Tanks, and Piping)
Analyze inspection data and historical information
Prepare samples for metallurgical examination including safe and efficient use of band and radial metal cutting saws, polishing, etching, and mounting equipment and in-situ metallographic replication
Perform routine test procedures such as magnetic particle inspection, liquid penetrant inspection, hardness testing, chemical analysis using spectrometer, heat treatments, etc. as required under the direction of qualified personnel
Provide quality documentation and reports
Individuals working an eight month term may be assigned one or more special projects and will typically be required to complete a final report and presentation
QualificationsEducation and Experience
Must be enrolled in 2nd, 3rd, or 4th, year of Materials or Metallurgical Engineering Program
Course work in Welding, Corrosion, and Failure Analysis would be considered an asset
Available for an 4 month work term starting September 2019
Skills and Abilities
Basic metallurgical laboratory skills
Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
Self-starter with strong organizational skills
Functional knowledge of MS Office software (Excel, Access and Microsoft Word)
Requirements
Transcripts are required for consideration
Valid class 5 driver’s license
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Work Location
This is a Fort McMurray based position located at our Mildred Lake or Aurora site.
