Study Summary

This trial will test a new way to help patients follow through with lung cancer screenings, by giving them medication and sending them text messages.

Who is the study for?
This trial is for smokers aged 55 or older with a significant smoking history (30 pack years), who are willing to try quitting and can communicate in English. They must not be using other cessation programs, have serious heart issues, recent heart attacks, unstable mental health conditions, severe alcohol or substance abuse problems.Check my eligibility
What is being tested?
The study is testing if adding medication and text messaging support helps people quit smoking better than the usual care given during lung cancer screenings. Participants will either receive this new combination treatment or the standard care randomly.See study design
What are the potential side effects?
Potential side effects from nicotine replacement therapy may include skin irritation from patches, sleep disturbances if used before bedtime, mouth soreness with lozenges/gum, and nausea. Text messaging has no known medical side effects.
